I don't like how you have to do everything to progress
if I played it as a kid I would never finish it without a guide, at least you can skip stuff in 64 and discovering a secret feels super cool

Id say galaxy was the most overrated. I remember galaxy and twilight princess being praised as these absolutely perfect masterpieces but really oot and m64 are better

the weird thing about this game was all the realism in it the other 3d mario games had a more consistent cartoony style

I think that's intended, like cartoony mario going into some movie
I saw a city with realistic people in the trailer, and the game is about Mario traveling the world so it makes sense
