i hate War Thunder.
Nobody actually enjoys that game. The players are just like gambling addicts, and I'm not talking about the literal gambling part of the game.
They suffer 9 losses and keep going because of that one win, and that's the only thing fueling them besides knowing that if they get a thousand more of those wins, they can unlock a single new shiny toy to play with.
There's zero actual enjoyment involved in the fueling of the gameplay loop, just addicting elements. "Progress" made towards unlocking stuff that you have to unlock stuff for, currency for the sake of you having numbers to keep track of, and the kills you get on other players that are far and in-between enough with their doses to feel rewarding.
They don't play because they actively have fun with the game as they're playing it, but because of the exhilaration they get when they see "Tank/Aircraft destroyed". Everything up to that point is suffering and boredom, because the design of the game doesn't allow it to be anything more.
I don't buy that anybody has fun waiting several minutes between matches (I consider the numerous minutes spent climbing and waiting for people to show up in aerial battles to be waiting for a new game) just to have a slight moment of actual gameplay. And gameplay which could result in instant disappointment thanks to the bullshit mechanics and balancing that the developers don't care to do anything for.
But of course, all that disappointment is purposefully placed in there because it in turn makes it feel that much more "rewarding" when someone has things go their way. That one moment of feeling rewarded and making "progress" can have somebody bear through hours and hours of suffering and loss, and I'm pretty sure that's exactly how things are for gambling addicts.
There's barely enough gameplay put in for it to be called that, but it's just a veil for all the shit that's simply trying to get you addicted.
I'm mad because I can't play it anymore. Fuck that game.
