These threads are extremely thinly veiled attempts to force political debate onto the /sp/ catalog and, for some unknown reason, the jannies tolerate it. Meanwhile other more on-topic threads get deleted within 5 minutes and a 3 day ban is issued if you even mildly hint at a political topic.
