Twisted Metal was based. Most based car combat game of the 90's. Not a ton of competitors but was the most based. That or Carmageddon. Twisted Metal had missiles though and was more fun because of that. You also got to destory the Eiffel Tower and a Ferris Whell in one of the games. Pure destructionis always based.

Jet Moto- That shit was a solid racer. The motif was cool too. It was also super 90's. imagine if you had a bunch of motorcycles in like Miami or California with all the palm trees and in the sand were scantly clad, Pam Anderson/Carmen electra looking super models doing Budweiser commercials for eternity with big curly blond hair in the neon colored, high waisted bikinis. I think if you really want to look at culture in the 90's and into the early 2000's you really have to look at gaming, computer and early internet culture. It was such a sea change and is something that no other time before really had at such a level.

Black gave it a more edgier darker tone, which actually make it an amazing game. The PSP ones we're basically "remasters" of 1 and 2 put together, still fun though. But the 2012 Version will literally break your heart and set it on fire with how bad it is.

I was never a huge gamer growing up. In fact I've played more video game now that I'm older and slower and less interested in life than I did when I was young, spry and full of energy. Video games were (and still are) expensive. I had to mow hella lawns and take out the trash for two week straight to get enough money for just a game and I had to go half in with my brother for the consoles up to the PS3 era. Usually when it was my turn to play I'd just hand the control over to who really wanted to play or play multi-player with people. Unless I was really into the game but there weren't a ton of games growing up where I'd have longer than a 2 hour play session. Crash Team Racing btw. That was fun. I dunno if it's based but it sure was fun.

these games were fucking sick, but one of the few that was better on N64 because you could play with 8? I think people. I remember in the 90s as a kid at birthday parties 8 screen split screen twisted metal than we'd go outsite and throw water balloons shoot waterguns nerf guns play hide and seek kick the can , take our bikes off jumps play football soccer and hockey and just have a fuckin blast living life.

The Games were already kind of dark and degy but Black for sure cranked it up. I remember the trailer for the first game (was on a demo disc from a magazine) used to freak me out because of Sweet Tooth's fucked up teeth.

Well I mean by that account Mega-Man Legends was really the first open world action-adventure game I ever played and I played it almost 3 years before GTA 3 but that was obviously different in that there's more platforming sections. There's not a ton of platforming in GTA. GTA and action-adventure games in general are basically a genere that consists of putting a whole bunch of different game styles together. the PS2 GTAs if you break them down are a combination of a 3rd person shooter and a driving simulator. VC added a flight simulator and a buisness simulation to the mix. All the games have those four elements at it's core. They really haven't expanded on that formula since VC. They kind of have in some ways but that core is still there and is still the bread and butter.
