>>17250692In context. imagine you have been in the field for three weeks, getting what amounts to a starvation diet. Alternating between freeze cold and heat stroke. You have been getting 4 hours of sleep in 2hr blocks for the last 2 weeks.
The sun hasn't risen just yet and your walking up the metal steps to an elevated flying kitchen with a shitty paper plate. Your rifle is slung on your back poking you in the ass below your body armor.
You place your shit paper plate on the slide rail and cooks dump a scoop of something you can't see because they are running black out red lights. At the end of the line you have plate of something. You step out into the dark and go looking to find a seat at a folding plastic table set on the grass that wobbles. You take out your metal utensils because this isn't your first time in the field and start to shovel food into your mouth. That was scrambled egg, it was wet. Next is a sausage, it's too small to be filling but is filled with grease and meat and you do have one more to eat later; Gonna save that for last. But then last thing you scoop up is some sort of slimy pool that takes up half your plate.
And it's tastes of sweet, smoke, the grit of the bean, and a few bits of bacon. It's the best thing you have had in as long as you can remember. You eat all the beans but for one last scoop. You then eat the watery eggs, and the last sausage. But you have kept the sweet baked beans for last.
