If it was systemic to human culture, pornographic pictures would have been the main use of the camera in the 1800s and there would have been a booming porn industry back then. There wasn't and there were not even regulations barring it at the time.
Prior to this, you might have had some pornographic prints in Libertine French circles but again, not widespread (these circles also had many jews in them).
Before this, wealthy patrons might have had some portraits of Nude women and that's it.
Pornography and habitual masturbation has never been part of any western society. Sexual murals in Ancient Greece and Rome were confined to the homes of wealthy patrons. If you think people collectively went to these extremely scarce pictures, in peoples homes, just to jack off, you are delusional.
Pornography for the masses is a 20th century phenomena, that only ever reached cultural acceptability post sexual revolution and during the Wiemar era.
