Sonic will never be better than Mario. A hundred years from now people will still be playing mario and nobody except for historians will ever know about Sonic's existence. The main appeal of sonic has always been flashing colors and a "radical" persona. The appeal of mario has always been good game design. Mario will continue into the future because it is an example of excellent game design whereas sonic will always be viewed as an icon of the 90's and forever regarded as an antiquated game that tried and failed to rival mario with pretty colors.
