The client sends a packet to the server. The server then sends a SYNchronize-ACKnowledgement to the client, indicating to the client that, "Hey I received this packet, is this from you?"
The client sends an ACKnowledgement to the server, "Yeah nigga, I sent that shit", then the connection is established.
It's called a 3-way handshake.
