Webp, jxl and avif are all better than png and jpeg and are all open source, doesn't matter which one becomes the new standard as long as it's at least one of them

Google does not give a shit about filesize efficiency and quality, since they included lossy compression with Webp.
And if they really cared about efficiency, they would stop making all web browsers and websites massively bloated nowadays. Uncompressed Png images are not the problem.
