The same reason you're still talking in Russian and not using a more "efficient" language or whatever. The simple fact is that no one really cares about systems of measurement in day to day life, they'll just use whatever they're used to and whatever helps them communicate with the people immediately around them.

The US is simply too important to ignore which means we don't really have to follow global trends like other countries and every country is more than willing to appease us. If medkit over there decided to go back to the yeoldetyme unit, everyone will just tell him to go fuck himself, but no one is willing to do that to the US. So the Imperial system remains because there's no pressure for us to change from any direction.

What's the point in changing the way we do things when the system we already have works perfectly fine? The metric system is already used in scientific, engineering etc. applications where it's relevant, there no sense changing it anywhere else

They actually don't.
American standard units (ASI) are defined in Standard Internation (SI) units.
For example, according to US law, an ASI inch is 0.0254 SI meters and an ASI foot is not defined as 12 ASI inches, but rather 0.3048 SI meters.

So America is actually on the metric system, they just do it the most retarded way they can.
