Does /bant/ know how to play chess? We have a chess board in the staff room at my workplace, but whenever I ask my co-workers if they want a quick game while I'm on break, they almost always say they don't even know how to play.

Why do so few people (seemingly, at least) know how to play such a basic and commonly known game?
