They are not capable of rational thought, have no culpability for their trespasses of actions. It was innocent and spotless. This disgusting image is actually the reason Plato and theologians conceptualized the idea of hell. No amount of finite punishment could remedy such a wicked act of cruelty. Even if the owner was tormented the rest of his life in a cell, it wouldn't fix what has been done. Hence such persons deservedly should suffer forever. Unfortunately, there probably isn't an afterlife with the world being as bad as it is but one day we can hope AI singularity will emerge and uploading consciousness will be possible to simulate hell for as long as the earth will exist for "people" like this.
