i work wildland fire in summer and 60 hour weeks is norm (12 on, 2 off). if season is slow, you sit on your hands, but the amount of 12-14 hr shifts is exhausting because the fire management officer wants to jerk off the overtime code if they spot lightning 100 miles away. Pay isn't that much higher than minimum wage. All your pay is overtime, and it is both addicting and a lingering dread.
divorce is expected and your social life is like a leper autist because you are dirty, tired, living through so many vices to stay alive (coffee in the morning, tobacco through the day, liquor by night), and surrounded by 95% men.
after fire season ends, and you get back to a normal life, and start to develop some positive habits, and then the rollercoaster starts again.
i mean the autism part too, because if you pay attention, you will notice you only talk about fire season around anyone else. it's like that fantasy football faggot that talks about the game everyday like it's the weather.
i'm trying to get out, but my job skills don't apply to anything than a lifetime of sucking government dick. government loves to play carrot on the stick with you, so you know exactly what it is like to be a corrupt politician.
you get used to your vehicle being broke down due to dirt roads for months (you fix) and having to drink nonpotable water because government won't pay to fix and won't let you fix.
it is your job to do admins work because gov workers are lazy.
This stuff happens every month that you get promised something, and then you find they spent their money on cameras or diversity learning instead.
It isn't woe is me bs, but just that the gov breaks you into being their cock sucker
it's addicting to be out in the middle of nowhere, wake up with snakes, scorpions, see the night sky w/o light pollution, but I don't think i'd wish it on anyone when they start to wonder why their body is broken and where every good habit went
cant believe im going back in a few weeks.
