i work wildland fire in summer and 60 hour weeks is norm (12 on, 2 off). if season is slow, you sit on your hands, but the amount of 12-14 hr shifts is exhausting because the fire management officer wants to jerk off the overtime code if they spot lightning 100 miles away. Pay isn't that much higher than minimum wage. All your pay is overtime, and it is both addicting and a lingering dread.
