They changed the face of the earth to a far more radical degree than even the industrial revolution. The political capital gained from WW2 might be an important predecessor, but it's a far less important factor than the immense leap in development we offered through computers. Keep in mind we were already an unfathomably rich super industrialized megapower before WW1, and certainly our help in rebuilding Europe isn't the reason why you guys speak English today.
