>>17665330well yeah, YOU wouldn't think that
peanut butter and jelly is certainly more popular, but i've seen peanut nanners before as well. i think it's just that she thinks the combination will be offensive to people who haven't had it like japen and their corn/mayo bread
i suppose that seems like a reasonable line of thought
well despise/hate wasn't on the list, but it would also fit and it's definitely supposed to just mean "stronger" versions of the same word. you're right that it' exactly this kind of confusion that people don't need to be exposed to in some half assed incomplete explanation though
i think the way i would put it is more that the "normal" words are far broader, so the "strong" ones guarantee intensity in places where they overlap
so if someone says "i hate peanut butter" they might very well mean "just remembering that peanut butter exists fills me with rage", but more than likely they mean "not too fond of the taste of peanut butter". on the other hand "i despise peanut butter" sounds much more like the former by default. of course the water then immediately gets muddier further by the fact that english is a pretty hyperbolic language in general and people often use words like "despise" for mundane things because overstating your opinions is charming
>>17665379that's because it is. definitely skipping tomorrow if i don't wake up feeling better which seems unlikely
lol, not even a boss to watch over you?
