>>17653939I would say the present time is the best time to be a soldier. today there is more emphasis on training and self preservation. armies are investing more into the individual soldiers with communications equipment, proper armor, better weapons, and proper training. they also provide extra benefits such as free college or some form of specialized loan and free healthcare.
But today's soldier has to meet more demands than the soldier in the past. instead of just taking over some territory and shooting some people, they now have to police the territory, help civilians, provide aid and food, repair roads, connect with the community, etc etc.
even still, the soldier of today has a much better survival rate compared to the past.
