1. eugenics: since they are islanders, they go through the process of natural selection without much interference from globohomo. It is an adaptation to scarcity: being on an island, there is limited resources, so their bodies adapt by holding more fat; thus, bigger is better so mates choose the fatter ones since inherently they have a higher chance of survival.
this is the same reason why africans have big butts, because having that big butt means you can run faster to hunt game / run away from predators. also why africans are the fastest people in the world.
2. sedentary lifestyle: globohomo has made it so that samoans can just have more kids, which disrupts the natural processes of selection, and they become increasingly more reliant on imports due to a lack of resources (due to overpopulation), as they already have the genes to encourage fatness, this makes them become obese easily. a lot of these islands are also owned by rich countries like the US, UK, France, Australia, NZ etc., so they can just rely on welfare. Add this on top of the fact that there's no jobs, nothing to do on these islands & it creates a sedentary lifestyle.
