>>17695711I don't hate dogs, but I hate 95% of dog owners.
My family has always owned dogs, but we did so for utilitarian reasons. Dogs are useful for protecting the farm, herding, alerting when danger is present, and guarding the home. Most dogs belong outside in the barn, or in their own shelter. If a dog is too old to be of any use, then it should be put down. If it disappears one day, then it must have run off or gotten eaten by wolves, so my grandparents would just get a new dog. Sometimes a dog would wander unto their property, and they would keep it if it was useful, and nobody came to claim it.
Most dog owners today, especially in cities, treat dogs like a surrogate child. These dogs are basically like retarded, neurotic infants that are constantly needy and psychologically unwell because they cannot express their true nature. Many childish adults get dogs for aesthetic reasons, without any consideration for the dog's nature, such as a former neighbor of mine who bought an Australian Shepherd while living in an apartment. Of course, the dog would bark, howl and go crazy - it needs acres of open space to run, herd and actually apply its intellect.
I cannot imagine being forced to walk a dog twice a day, pick up its shit, and have to make extensive and expensive arrangements for who is going to watch the dog any time I want to go on vacation. Especially for dogs that cannot possibly protect you or provide any value beyond companionship. Most dog owners are mentally ill adults who need companionship from an animal that is literally bred to provide unconditional loyalty, because they cannot convince a thinking human being to sign up for such an arrangement.
