4chan has extensions, 4chan has an archive, 4chan has apps, 4chan has pretty much every board you need. The only thing other imageboards can offer in general is being its own secluded community, or being in a language other than English. 4chan itself was made so moot could take his little community off weebs away from SA, and make an English-speaking version of 2chan.net/Futaba

imageboards get very little traffic compared to more popular social media platforms so imagine trying to split that traffic onto another website. if other websites like say, mastodon, fails to take traffic from even something as big as twitter whos to say altchans will last?

(I am aware of the somewhat flaw of this argument, that since some altchans house close knit fringe groups or niches they in theory should last and maintain traffic, but then again these days those people will just end up making a discord server)
