The things that you likely hate most about your country, like political corruption, cramped ghetto-like cities and a terribly inefficient public sector, are problems seen in virtually all countries historically influenced by communism/socialism, from Romania to Argentina.
What’s even more baffling to me is that the above statement is not a part of the current political discussion. These problems are not unique to Greece.
Having said that, I don’t believe Greece can be saved within our lifetimes, not any more than Argentina can be saved. The cradle of western civilization, full of proud but secretly self-hating modern Greeks, will continue to be an utterly irrelevant player in the global scene, on the fronts of economy, military, science and culture. A marionette of stronger countries that couldn’t give less of a shit about its inhabitants.
