>>17771754>The monk in Florence didn't want to grant me the precepts until i learned what it means to be a good layman and what i wish to become.my best advice i could give is to read buddhist literature. if you want some more lighter reading, you could try reading Jataka tales. it tells the tales of how the enlightened one lived his past lives and how his mendset was. in a way, it describes what births are like and is a decent way to understand the reincarnation since Buddha himself has had lives that were deemed "low" (outcasts and such). its more headcanon-y thoughever. but really, you should read sutra. most of the things you need to know are in sutra. just skimp through them. i think the monk is more worried about you not knowing the full background of buddhism
