>>17859700well philologists aside, it's actually a pretty heated debate active in linguistics now. prescriptive linguists believe that there's a correct way to speak and that anyone who violates the rules is simply stupid, while descriptive linguists believe that anything native speakers say to each other is correct
in this instance it's just weird because until recently "you and me" wasn't used "incorrectly" by anyone with a high school education until pretty recently, so we're only now crossing the threshold to it being truly acceptable. trying to say it's fine because native speakers do it 15 years ago would've been like saying "well 'there' and 'their' are interchangeable because native speakers use them interchangeably sometimes and get by fine" today
