moreover, my dad is into bike shit and he has never had anything stolen, EXCEPT for 1 time he was in GENEVE in 2007, rented a bike, tied it to a bike rack, and lost his front wheel. he was gone for 1 hour maybe, and it happened in the middle of a day.

In the US sometimes they will take your wheels away and then come back at night to break the lock and steal the body. People also will put bikelocks around your already locked bike for the same reason.
