There's been a shitton of chans. Infinity chan is relatively new, relatively speaking. 7chan used to be the 2nd most populous English chan followed by 420chan.

Sort of, it comes from the analytic continuation, since zeta only covers a+bi for positive a values.

I think I've heard the result of -1/12 has some use in physics, so that's probably why they bring it up more if I were to guess. And it comes from both the infinite series and the integral doesn't it? The series for zeta(-1) gives you 1+2+3+... and the integral gives -1/12. I only have a vague idea of what I'm talking about so forgive me if I'm wrong.
