War also forces nations to rid themselves of policies and expenses that weaken the nation, it forces technological advancement, as entrenched financial interests holding back innovation are swept aside by nessesity.
You cant afford to have a fat/lazy/stupid population if your fighting for your survival.
You cant afford to dumb down your education system/population, if your in a technological race for survival
You cant afford to promote feminism/low birth rates, if you need a growing steady stream of healthy young soldiers/workers.
Fact of the matter is America just like Rome is a victim of it's own success, which is why we need Russia to win the war in ukraine, to shake the west out of it's complacency/stupidity.
