A guy by the name Sugimoto "the Immortal" gets involved in the Russo-Japanese war.
There he serves with his friend, his friend dies, and he promises to save his blind wife.
fast forward, he goes to harafuto upon learning theres gold there(whcih he will use to support the friend's blind wife). he also meets an ainu girl and they go on adventures together
then the story goes on.
