Farming/homesteading thread?

ID:dGYKeRvR No.17922274 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I picked up farming/homesteading a few years ago and usually grow enough to last my family and I a good bit of the year, even when giving a good bit of it away to neighbors, coworkers and friends. I do most everything by hand as I don't have enough money for a tractor and don't have enough grazing land for an animal to pull a plough. Despite that, its been the most satisfying and fulfilling things I have ever done. I feel lied to because the media often portrays farming as backbreaking labor, but I have had more fun and more free time farming in between jobs than I ever did working a normal career. I think I spend maybe 4 hours a day caring for my acre of land, inspecting it and spraying for bugs and tending to the chickens, at most. Even during sowing/harvest that really only goes up to 5-7 for a few weeks out of the year. I also have a few chiggins for eggs and am looking to get a goat for dairy.
