>>17925998Exactly. College is about making money insofar as a submarine can swim or a computer can think. I don’t mean to dress two machines in the pathetic fallacy, but there’s a famous quote I’m trying to conjure, but I cannot. The point is…is money and success a byproduct or the main goal of college? It’s really the only question that one can answer for oneself.
You can make lots and lots of money depending upon your network, your major, your skills, etc. Unfortunately, life and the world of work are very rarely meritorious, honestly. Does someone like you as a human person? Can they bear to look at you and care to talk to you, day after day? If yes, you’ll probably get hired. If not, probably not. You can be super qualified, but if you’re difficult or rude or unlikable, you’re going to have a really bad time. Remote work/work from home/telecommuting are delightful. For most of us, uncharted territory.
Personally, I struggle with work. I need routine, structure, stability, security, a pat on the back from time to time, and a decent wage, or eventually I’ll lose my shit over some petty grievance. If I could do it over again, I would have majored in astronomy, if and only if, I could be alone in an observatory unmolested. Alone and unmolested are the operative words here.
The following is just an observation. People shit on fast food and have for decades. Fast food employees give up during the pandemic never to return. “Oh no, boo hoo, we need dem boigas. Please come back” many such cases. Everyone hates the wagies until the wagies leave and never come back.
Also, people shit on zoomers. They’re doing their best. Can you imagine the intricacy of having to contend with social media from the time you’re in Velcro shoes and riding tricycles and your parents shove a smartphone in your face? Screens, screens, screens. Clout, clout, clout. Etc.; etc I like my private life very much. I don’t envy the young these days.
