>>17993363There is a big give and take here. Their are lots of fakers out there. Part of it is a little bit like a magic trick. A well designed atmosphere, a florish in the service, and some Applebee's/ tx roadhouse tier food you paid double the price for.
However, there are also real operations that produce very high quality cuisine by way of skilled preparation, intensely QAed high quality products obtained through very carefully maintained supply lines amd delivered with impeccable service. It's expensive to do these things, so the costs of a plate are nessesarily high. Not that this is typical. And there is certainly a diminishing return at work. Probably the best dinner I have ever had was 1300 dollars for 3 people. But the second best was maybe 1/5th that price. The expensive Michelin star dinner was better, but it wasn't 5 times better.
