Enlil is the war god, and aryans worshiped the war god. The key issue is that most of the ancient world worshiped Enlil in some version or other, the Aryan/Indo-European tribes were pretty much everywhere, and fought with each other all the damn time, but they all have essentially the same culture (warrior culture, patriarchal, blood sacrifices). One could argue that they're worshiping a demon who knowingly enjoys watching its followers slaughter each other, or one could take approach that these different tribes simply forgot they were all related.
