Question for atheists

No.18077861 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Something doesn't make sense about the Gospels.

All throughout Jesus is preaching honesty, transparency, and basically all good deeds. So it doesn't make sense that he would be cynically plotting and lying about the claim that he was the son of God.

Therefore, an atheist would likely say he was out of his mind - possibly a schizo, a delusional, or semi-hallucinating person.

However, the historical Jesus was obviously able to attract a huge following so he had to be charismatic and alluring. He clearly had control of at least some of his mental capacities. (Disregarding scenes where he lashes out against leaders in the temple and Pharisees). If he was a fraud, how would he even be able to maintain any following, let alone a huge building movement? All the books of the Bible report miracles occurring, like exorcisms and healing of the blind. So he clearly did SOMETHING, but what exactly?

Obviously atheists believe the Resurrection did not occur. But here's the thing...why would people report all this and confidently write books about it? Put yourself in their shoes. Not even the biggest bullshitter on earth would have the balls to say this stuff if it was all 100% fake. Even if you're insane, why would you follow some random guy and begin lying for him that he came back from the dead...when he DIED and there is no reason to?

I've studied History a lot, and stories like this in the ancient world seem unheard of. There are small snippets and texts of highly improbable happenings, but I've never seen people freak out and all just decide to worship a supposedly normal human being as if they were literally God. So something is very weird with this whole story of 'eh, it was just some rando who was deluded'. Witnesses were either massively confused due to how events unfolded, or something happened.
