i love the story of the wise old guru, who stopped believing in himself as much, but through his pupil's unshakeable belief in his ability, manages to overcome his own limitations and become the teacher his pupil needs. i especially love the juxtaposition between being ruled by the fear of your craft, and also being a master at it, thinking about a guru who looks at the heights of his craft the same way a baby looks at a plate of peas. it's also funny, not being able to tap into that deeper potential that you know exists inside of you, that maybe that small voice of encouragement, no matter from who it comes from, is all we need to keep at it.
