Humans are attracted to rare traits because they signal something about the individual which may possibly let their children survive better in a niche scenario. Then these guys pretty much proved that anyone and everyone could get fit easily, ruining the rarity of it, and making it clear your physical body being fit has nothing to do with any genetic traits like ability to dedicate yourself, good muscles, or natural bone density.

So basically, once it definitely would have worked out in your favor, but now drugs and ease of access have made it so common that society no longer sees it as a rare and valuable achievement to be fit. This especially comes from the performance enhancing drugs, because they really ruined a lot of the respect people have for getting fit because of how common they are. The most famous body builder had to admit to being on steroids and the whole world is watching his body fail him in real time.

It's good for a man (or woman for that matter). The problem is it was taken as a means not simply to live a better internal life and be healthier, but as a pathway to getting the better things in life - social status, career advancement, money - and of course, decent (non-obese, non-slutty) women.
It doesn't work. Society is structurally incapable of giving most men those things now, no matter how they 'self-improve'. Most young women are some combination of obese, possessed with poisonous ideology, and expecting men to look after her and Tyrone's demi-nig offspring.
Career advancement and money meanwhile are gatekept by the (((ruling caste))) for themselves and their favourites.
Self-improvement can't overcome these societal factors.
