The salt flats would be a real good time, I've always wanted to fly through the grand canyon, one day haha.
I live in southern alberta, it's nothing but hills and farmland, I usually fly west to the mountains as far as I can go, land, have lunch, get gas, come home. 12 hours or so it's a trip for sure. If the weather comes up you just get a motel for the night and ride it out. Having a smartphone is obviously a necessity for weather tracking, finding gas, navigation pictures rescue etc. Just don't drop it.
Flight at night is alright, but it gets cold. Make sure you have good gear. And legally you need to run a light but that's fuck all.
