I heard once beer and things like wine and strange tasting foods get better as we age because its something 'different' from the common food we ate growing up. So it acts as a novel experience, which is unique and causes us to get into the present moment.

lagers generally taste pretty similar. Dark ales, blondes, IPAs etc vary greatly between individual beers, even if it is the same beer there is a big difference if it is cask, bottle or can. Maybe you smoke too much

Not in general, but I worked a craft beer shop for several years. It's pretty much just lagers, rakija, mastika and wine least of all in my region at least.

It's impossible to persuade most people to throw away the methanol and heads when brewing, but if you find someone who does it then it's even better, especially if distilled twice. Most of the commercial stuff is at 40% abv and that's way too low.

Most home made rakija is shit because people don't throw away the heads so the result is a product that has more methanol than beer or wine when it should have less. Some people also cut it too strong, at 50% abv or above.
