so i guess whether you take things seriously or not is a balance, and exist on a gradient where the two extremes balance eachother out. people take life seriously as a means to attempt to control the outcome, when the outcome isn't under their control. when people end up taking life too seriously, they end up in a vicious cycle, where if negative feedback were to result from their actions, they'd take life even more seriously. this prevents people from enjoying their lives, and just being present in the moment. a consequence for this is that their happiness will become conversely defined by what makes them unhappy, rather than being life itself, and so they falsely believe that the grass is greener on the other side of the hill.
