>>18325856The anime is not intelligent. It has good characters, good theme exploration, and a good plot but don't expect to have your mind blown. The political philosophy is basically what you would hear in the average American highschool. If you want to think about something then read a non-fiction book. It is also not an action anime, a lot of characters simply spend their time talking and most of the battle is seen from the perspective of generals rather than the perspective of the soldiers. There are still moments of action but it's not the main focus like it is in a lot of other war anime (yamato). It's biggest strength are its characters and how they preserve their ideals during a brutal conflict.
It's very good anime and I recommend everyone watches it.
