Personally, I think antifa's violence/suppression of speech and corporate news is more of a problem facing American rights than "Nazis" anyway. So, he's right to call out violence on both sides, because it's coming from both sides.
It's worth asking: even if you disagreed with most of the president's policies/actions, would you really resign your seat on an advisory council and forfeit the nominal power you'd have in that position to offer council on something and cause some degree of change?
He's just trying to appeal to his base but is playing the political game wrong.
