Personally I think most people just need a little boxing + wrestling for "self defense", you should know how to punch/be punched and wrestle/avoid takedowns. So for the most part a little bit of striking and grappling is all you really need. You can specialize in BJJ/Judo/TKD/WingChun/Muay Thai if you really want, but for like 95% of street fights all you really need is a little boxing + wrestling.
