>>1848065I think it's about being "on model" for the sake of merchandise. Also no body in Hollywood has any taste, and that includes the filmmakers themselfs, animators may be diffrent - but where I'm going with this is the more fluid (literally more inbetweens) yet "on-model" and "perfect" (i.e. no 'character animation' and no expression) the Producers and Network Executives mistake for "quality".
Also remember that aside from like the actual animators, voice actors and technical crew (foley artists, recording engineers, IT specialists etc.) no one actually needs to fucking work on an animated production. So you have all these middle managers who come from a business background who need to justify their job by adding pointless notes so it looks like they're contributing something. Deliberately adding inefficiencies to the production process and increasing the costs because it means they still have a job next year.
Literally "too many chefs spoil the broth". Now with all that committee thinking the only thing they'll agree upon is on-model, fluidly inbetweened animation
At least that's my theory on the crappy animation. I can't explain the shitty character designs, committee blandifying?
