What you're refering to as bant, is in fact, /qa/bant/, or as I've recently taken to calling it, kway plus banter. /bant/ is not a board with distinct culture unto itself though, but rather another memetic component of a fully functioning SOI system made useful by the SOI booru, SOI utilities and vital components.
After the /qa/ nuking, many /bant/ visitors run a modified version of /qa/ every day, without realizing it. After the nuking, the version of /qa/ which is widely used today is often called /bant/, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the SOI system, developed by the SOI Project.
There really is a /bant/, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the kernel: the board that allocates the catalog to soijak images. The 'log is an essential part of a board, but useless by itself thoughbeit; it can only function in the context of a complete memetic culture. /bant/ is used in combination with the /qa/ inheritance: the whole system is basically /qa/ with /bant/ added, or /qa/bant/. All the so-called /bant/ memes are really memes of /qa/bant/ however!
