i'd say the only time I've been appalled of Japanese is when a YouTube channel i followed, "banbanzai" posted a video of eating a live octopus. I unsubscribed and reported the video. Yet it didn't get deleted.
I hate when people like to meddle with other cultures just because they don't like something, but in this case I find it just. it's animal cruelty.
To any Japanese people reading this, allowing this kind of behavior and videos on YouTube will ruin up your great reputation and cause you harm. As a friend to Japan I'd strongly suggest you go against it.
One last thing preemptively, I also condemn cases of animal cruelty in all countries.
