>>18580853>it’s just grinding nowThere’s no way you played vanilla.
Every expansion was slightly different. Vanilla was a true grind fest. BC greatly expanded what you had to know about the game and how to build your character. WotLK was much more team oriented, and Cata took that to the next level, with very intricate boss battles.
That was a sort of turning point. The devs wanted to show off end-game content, so they rushed people through to the level cap so they could see it. But the boss fights were so intricate that you had to have a a plan; you couldn’t just know how to play your class and not stand in the fire. Pugs were wiping on trash fights when Cata was current because they’d reintroduced CC and people simply didn’t know how to use it because they never had to before.
Pandas suffered the same problem. It was a great game, but without a dedicated guild or a core group that you ran with, end-game content was always a joke. You could be a top tier player who knows the fight, and knows his class, but you’d be in a group of imbeciles who never bothered and didn’t really care. They didn’t earn the right to make it that far.
I’m had a fantastic guild in Cata, ranked #1 in guild achievement points because we did everything together. We were in the top 5 for raid achievement points on our PvE server, again because we did things together.
When the guild fell apart I saw what others were dealing with and it was fucking bleak.
