Of course, buildings still usually have water fountains, and most restaurants and stuff will serve you water for free (or in fast food places, give you a free cup if you pinky promise not to put soda in it instead), but something about that plastic bottle just screams "Totally worth a buck fifty!" to people and so they actually buy it. -
Honest to god of all the things my fellow burgers do to embarrass me, buying bottled water is one of the worst. It's easy to say "oh well that's just rednecks" when someone posts a picture of an American doing something stupid, but even otherwise intelligent burgers consistently fall for the bottled water meme and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
