A trick I've been working on is steering the conversation to others more than myself. I think you need to express yourself at least a little bit, but people love to talk about themselves. Ask them questions, throw in a shred about yourself, and then get people to say more. I think you'll find that as long as you're nice and easy to talk to, people will want to spend time with you regardless.
