There's few good or passionate therapists in the U.S.
Most of them just see it as an easy job
And it is
The therapy as you know it is intended for normies, or in other words, what is considered a normal and mentally healthy person. Occasionally a normie goes through something that disturbs their usual routine (a family member dies, workplace drama, midlife crisis, etc.) and need a shoulder to cry on. Enter your average therapist, who just listens, nods, and suggests the most generic advice. But this is more than enough for the normie, because the normie was never afflicted by any mental health condition in the first place, only the unpleasant emotions caused by an inconvenience in their life of routines. You could say the therapist helps the normie process the emotions and prevent them from developing into destructive behaviors which could result in actual mental health issues
The average therapist is skilled in helping people deal with external influences. But when it comes to helping people who are troubled by their own minds, from which the issues lies internally, most therapists simply are unable to help, for they themselves are nothing but normies too, and could not possibly comprehend the minds of those that are not "normal"
In other words, people like you are not their intended customer, and in that case: yes, it is a scam
