With Looney Toons it's because it makes sense that they'd be spelled the same way as CARTOON. Film and animation nerds will tell you that it's always actually been Tunes because Looney Tunes is a spin off from Merrie Melodies. The name Merrie Melodies is also a musical pun because it was Warner Bros. take on Disney's Silly Symphonies.
