>>18796731>No I think you're wrong. You're thinking of 2000's Alternative Metal (cringe) and equating it with late 80's early 90's Metal (based).Alternative Metal is the "I'm 13 and this is deep" genre. Stuff like Skillet, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, that is the "I hate my parents and society" music.
In the 90's what was popular was Death, Black, Trash, Speed, Techdeath, Prog, the beginning of numetal/fusion metal, Industrial, New Wave of British Heavy metal and Hair metal prominently.
We may just be disagreeing on time frame. Pantera on Vulgar Display of Power, and then especially on Far Beyond Driven, incorporated a lot of "fuck society, fuck authority, fuck my parents" themes, and FBD was a #1 album in 1994. These albums were hugely influential to groups that would make nu metal and alt metal, along non-metal industrial rock influences like Ministry and Nine Inch Nails. I agree that alt metal and nu metal had the gay "fuck society" themes, but a lot of those bands started getting popular around 1995, 1996, 1997.
