Something like a rat needs to be better at things like mating dances to rapidly attract a mate, any mate, so they can have as many offspring as possible before dying.
Something like a human needs to actually avoid things like that because their offspring are costly and need to be a good investment from the start, and so are terrible at mating dances no matter how many residual instincts are left from their animal days. This forces them to mate based on what's best for survival today instead of what their genes think might be best survival based on the environment 200,000 years ago.
