In a typical brain during a typical day the senses are separately received as input, processed, and stored as memories. You have a mirrored pair of "brains" which controls one half of each sensory organ. Right brain controls sensory processing from the left part of your body and left controls right.
Psychedelics do three things to the brain that give the impression of "extra sensory" experience with what seems like a separate but completely real intelligence.
First, they muddle the sensory input of the organ.
Second, they cause the muddled input to be processed in multiple locations in the brain.
Third, and unique to psychedelics, they scramble the transition of this processed "data" across the the bundle of nerves connecting your brain hemispheres.
The result is the illusion of communication and sensory processing.
